Pooh History
Winnie the Pooh was brought to life on Christmas Eve in 1925 when the first Pooh story, written by A.A Milne, was published in the London Evening News.
The story was based on a bedtime story read by A.A. Milne to his son Christopher, the inspiration for the little boy in the Pooh stories.
The characters in A.A Milne's stories are all based on toys once owned by his son. Christopher had a favourite teddy bear, which he called Winnie the Pooh in honour of Winnie, the Canadian bear he had seen in London Zoo and a swan near the family's country home, Pooh. Eeyore was a Christmas present to Christopher. The inspiration for Hundred Acre Wood comes from Ashdown Forest in Sussex, which was near A.A Milne's country home in Cotchford Farm.
Winnie the Pooh is also called Pooh, or Pooh Bear, but never ever, just Winnie!
After 80 years of friendship and adventure, Winnie the Pooh has become a worldwide favourite with mothers and children of all ages!
